Cable-tec Game Demonstrations -  JDSU has put together an overview of the OTDR game which can be found on the website (http://www.scte.org/chapters/cable_tec_games.aspx).  Feel free to forward this link to anyone participating in the games.   

Strategic Planning – As many of you begin your 2012 strategic planning, just a reminder a chapter receives 25 points for submitting their 2012 calendar and another 25 points if the chapter creates goals for 2012.  If you need examples of either item, please let me know. 

Year-End Review – Chapters can receive 15 points for completing the strategic year-end evaluation (http://www.scte.org/documents/chapters/Year%20End%20Strategic%20Evaluation.docx)  and send it to headquarters between December 1st and January 31st

SCTE Overview PowerPoint -  The PowerPoint that gives an overview of SCTE benefits has been updated and a script has been added in the notes section (http://www.scte.org/documents/chapters/SCTEOverview2011withScript.ppt).  Your chapter may want to consider giving this presentation at an upcoming technical session or recruitment event.  Just don’t forget to let us know so that your chapter can get recruitment points.

SCTE Leadership Conference – CLC and CBL&D is merging into the SCTE Leadership Conference.  This conference which is scheduled for April 17, 18 & 19 in Henderson, NV will now be a three day event that will focus on training, leadership and chapters.  The conference will be geared towards trainers, supervisors, leaders and chapter board members.  Chapters will continue to receive two free passes to attend day two and day three of the event (leadership and chapters).

Quarterly Chapter Leaders Conference Call – November 30, 2011 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm (EST) – SCTE staff will be providing an update on current and future SCTE offerings and answering any of your questions. Phone Number: 1-877-219-8745 PassCode: 6307828#

Virtual Training -  SCTE staff has provided several virtual trainings to local chapters this year.  Presentation topics have included IPv6, SEMI, Update on SCTE and chapter leadership training.  If your chapter be interested in a virtual training at an upcoming technical session, vendor day, strategic planning session or board meeting, let us know.

2012 Vendor Days & Technical Sessions – Please remember when planning your events to check for conflicts with other chapters in your region and/or national events such as EXPO which will be held October 17 – 19th 2012.  Once you have your dates, kindly let us know so we can add them to the online Event Calendar.  If there is a conflict, we will need to resolve that conflict with both chapters before adding the event to the calendar. 

MailChimp – For those of you looking for a mass email distribution list serve, this service might help.  A majority of chapters would qualify for either the free plan or the $10 a month plan.

2012 Cactus Chapter Board of Directors Election Results are in!

Dear Cactus Chapter SCTE members,

I’m pleased to announce the results of the 2012 Board of Director Election results. Please help me in congratulating the newly elected members.

VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE #1: The Cactus Chapter Annual Strategic Planning Meeting (ASPM) will be held on January 20th at the Desert Diamond Casino & Hotel, 7350 S. Nogales Highway, Tucson, AZ  85756 with breakfast beginning at 7:00am and Meeting from 8:00am to 5:00pm. We invite all suggestions and persons wanting to determine the topics for next year’s seminars. Please feel free to reply to this email with seminar suggestion topics, locations, and/or speakers.  You are also welcome to attend the meeting in person to give your input.  If you choose to do so, RSVP to mmoreno@mediacomcc.com no later than Friday, Jan. 6th so that we may order the appropriate amount of meals and snacks for the day.

VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE #2: The Cactus Chapter will be hosting the annual Vendor Show, training seminars and 19th annual Cable Games event on Tuesday, February 7th at Talking Stick Resort, 9800 E. Indian Bend Road, Scottsdale, AZ  85256.   Registration begins at 7:30am.  Vendors are welcomed to assist in sponsoring the event and all technicians are encouraged to attend.  This event entails technical training, networking, information sharing and of course the spirit and fun of competition.  Vendor sponsorship forms and Technical Registration forms are attached for your convenience.  We hope to see you all there!

Spirit of the Games Award – The Spirit of the Games Award, sponsored by CommScope, will be awarded yearly to a participant, staff member, or host vendor who truly embraces and exhibits sportsmanship and the learning environment at the cable-tec games.  The award is established in memory of David Jones, who had a very strong focus on the spirit of the SCTE Cable-Tec Games.  Chapter leaders can nominate individuals, by completing the online nominations form, at any time during the 2012 Cable Games season.  The winner will be announced at the 2012 International Cable-Tec Games, held in conjunction with SCTE Expo.

 

Elections & Annual Plans - It’s that time of year.  Please remember to send us your election results.  Just a reminder, your chapter membership is responsible for electing the chapter board and therefore, we will be looking for documentation that shows that the chapter member had a voice in the chapter election process.   Also, many chapters are working on strategic/annual plans for 2012, please forward them to us so points can be awarded.  Forms for both of these items can be found on the CORe site (http://www.scte.org/chapters/core.aspx).   

 

Chapter Member of the Year – The Chapter Awards Subcommittee is currently accepting applications for Chapter Member of the Year.  If you are interested in nominating a chapter leader, please fill out the nominations form (http://www.scte.org/forms/chaptermemberyear.cfm) by January 31st.

Dear Chapter Leaders:

The 12th annual Chapter Leadership Conference (CLC) will take place at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina in Tampa, FL, April 13-14.

As a reminder, in order to continue delivering this two-day highly-valued annual event, in its current format, we had to make some registration changes. Those changes are listed below:

  • Each chapter will receive 2 complimentary, full-registration passes to be used by their own chapter leaders
  • Chapters are welcome to send more than 2 individuals to the event. Online registration will be available for a $300 registration fee beyond the 2 complimentary passes provided to each chapter
  • Awards dinner tickets will be available for purchase
  • SCTE will be offering a spouse registration option, which includes all catered functions, including the awards dinner, for $100
  • Official 2011 CLC shirts will be available for purchase at $25 each. Sizes and quantities can be indicated at time of registration.

Information regarding registration, housing, schedule of events and CLC shirts will be made available shortly. We look forward to seeing you in April.
